Your Google Business Profile

A Google Business Profile is the information people see when they search for your company on Google Search or Google Maps. It can show your business name, address, telephone number, operating hours, website, photographs, reviews and directions. For many customers, this is their first contact with your business, so it should be accurate and useful.

How to get your Google Business Profile

Search for your business name on Google or Google Maps. Your business may already have a profile, even if you did not create it. When you find it, select the option to claim or manage the business.

If no profile exists, create one through Google Business Profile. You will be asked for details such as your business name, category, address or service area, telephone number and website. Google will then ask you to verify that you are authorised to manage the business.

Do not create another profile simply because you cannot access an existing one. Duplicate profiles can confuse customers and split your reviews. Rather use Google’s process to request access or ownership.

Complete the important information

Complete every section that applies to your business, especially your name, category, address or service area, telephone number, website, hours, services and description.

Choose the category that best describes your main service. Your description should clearly explain what you offer, who you serve and where you operate.

Make sure these details match the information on your website and other online listings. Inconsistent contact details can confuse customers and make the business look poorly managed.

Add genuine photographs

Add a clear logo, cover image and recent photographs of your premises, products, staff or completed work.

Use well-lit images that show the real business. A restaurant can show its food and seating area, while a construction company can show completed projects. Avoid relying only on stock photographs, as customers want to see what they can actually expect.

Build and manage your reviews

Ask customers who have genuinely used your business to leave an honest review. Sending them a direct Google review link can make this easier.

Do not buy reviews or tell customers what to write. Genuine reviews collected steadily are more believable.

Respond professionally to both positive and negative feedback. Thank satisfied customers and handle complaints calmly, without arguing publicly.

Maintain and improve your profile

Check your profile regularly and update it whenever something changes. Keep your hours, telephone number, website and services accurate.

Add new photographs and useful updates about services, offers or events. You can also review calls, website visits, direction requests and common searches to understand what interests customers.

Use this information to improve your profile. If one service attracts more searches, make sure it is clearly described. If customers often request directions, confirm that your map location and operating hours are correct.
